Obesity
Costs All of Us
One in four Americans is obese. About nine million children and
adolescents in the U.S. are overweight or obese. That's roughly
15 percent of the children and teens between the ages of 6 and 19.
A new study by RTI International and the Centers for Disease
Control and Prevention estimates that U.S. obesity-attributable
medical expenditures reached $75 billion in 2003 and that taxpayers
finance about half of these costs through Medicare and Medicaid.
This is an economic burden that comes in the form of increased
health care costs for the individual and for society.

Aluminum
in Hygiene Products
Aluminum is found everywhere: anti-perspirants, toothpaste,
baby powder and cosmetics. It has even been found in infant
formulas. Aluminum is termed heavy metal because it is very dense
and heavy, and has been proven to damage health.Toxic metals place
a strain on the body which undermines it ability to function.
This lowered function can lead to fatigue and numerous
other problems. Do your body a favor and purchase deodorant
(not anti-perspirants--the body needs to sweat a little) and beauty
products that are natural and as organic as possible. They are
just as effective without compromising your health.

Light
and Noise Pollution
There is a struggle to keep the dark of night and the sound of mother
nature. Since 1960, the planet's population has more than doubled. By
2020, world energy demands will rise nearly 60 %. Forty percent of people
in the United States live in areas so brightly lit constantly that their
eyes never adjust to night vision. Neurologists warn that the human brain
needs silence and darkness. Overexposure to light at night upsets human
cycles, produces fatigue and strains the immune system. Overexposure to
noise has been linked to heart disease, headaches and high blood pressure.
One out of ten Americans suffers from impaired hearing. People who endure
high levels of noise in their daily lives seem to be less likely to assist
strangers in difficulty--so noise may even deafen us morally!
