Preventing Breast Cancer
City of Hope has conducted studies that show chemicals found in red wine and
red grape seeds block the formation of estrogen, a key step in breast cancer tumor
development. They tested many vegetables and found the following three foods to be helpful in
preventing breast cancer: red wine, red grapes, and mushrooms (portabello, crimini and button).

Fall Diet for Health
Our ancestors ate according to what was in season and were healthier as a
result. The fall season according to Ayurveda begins mid-October and lasts until
mid-February.
The cool, crisp, windy weather of Vata season is balanced by eating the following foods:
organic milk, fresh cheeses, rice, cous cous, pasta and cream of wheat.
Vegetables to add during this season are beets, carrots, asparagus, squash and sweet
potatoes. Nuts like cashews, almonds and pistachios and sesame seeds are great to eat now.
Guideline: eat more warm, moist substantial foods during the fall incorporating olive oil or ghee.
Avoid salads, cold cereals, crackers and cold and iced drinks.

Caffeine--the truth!
For those of us who love our coffee (in moderation of course) there is good news!
According to an epidemiologist at Harvard Medical School who has been following
coffee research for 25 years coffee might have some health benefits.

Studies at Harvard found that frequent coffee drinkers had less trouble with
gallstones. They also found that women and especially men seemed to be protected from
Parkinson's disease. In another Harvard study they found coffee drinkers seemed
to run less risk of developing type 2 diabetes. Coffee's caffeine appears to
be responsible for most of its protective effects and coffee contains a rich
amount of antioxidants. Who should avoid caffeine? People with irregular heart
rhythms, pregnant women and those who have trouble sleeping. For healthy
coffee do the following: use organic beans (regular beans have huge amounts
of pesticide present) and grind your own, use filtered water, use dioxin-free
filters like the gold-plated filter (SwissGold) and clean your machine regularly
with vinegar. If you must have decaf make sure it is Swiss water process decaf
(this process does not use chemicals).

Sauna for Detoxing
As I continue to detoxify my body from my second surgery and taking
antibiotics for an internal infection, I find the sauna very effective.
I have noticed some skin rashes as things are brought to the surface
and cleansed and healed. Please consult your doctor if you have a medical condition.
