Keep your Brain Happy
Research shows that regular exercise of the brain can minimize many of the effects of aging. It is just as important to exercise your brain as it is to exercise your body. Keep your mind and memory sharp by playing the games at happy-neuron.com. OC Metro Business magazine recommends these games that are available online or through other options like CDs. The games were developed by a psychologist, neuropsychologist and a neurologist. There are more than 30 games that stimulate the entire brain, not just part of it.
Safe Sun Habits
Skin cancer has become the most common form of cancer in the United States, with more than 1 million patients diagnosed yearly. We love our sun, but let's be smart about it! Many times the elderly, African Americans or people with dark skin have a vitamin D deficiency from lack of sunlight. I found that clients in Alaska were vitamin D deficient. Ten minutes of sun exposure in shorts and a T-shirt can increase vitamin D production.
Dr. Don Colbert recommends the following for safe sunning:
1. Wear protective clothing with tightly woven fabrics such as denim, cover your arms and legs, and wear a hat.
2. Wear sunglasses that block both UVA and UVB rays.
3. Apply sunscreen often. Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or greater. UV rays bounce off water, sand and penetrate glass. Car windows filter out UVB rays but not UVA rays. Drivers with long-term exposure to sun through the car window on their driver's side were shown to have rougher skin with more sun damage. Remember to apply sunscreen even on cloudy days, because UV rays also penetrate clouds.
4. If you are at risk of skin cancer, have a fair complexion or frequent sunburns, it is best to supplement with vitamin D in the amount of 1000 to 2000 IU/day.
5. Vitamin A may prevent skin cancer. Consume up to 25,000 IU of vitamin A.
6. Green tea has been shown to inhibit the growth of melanoma cells. You can drink it or apply green tea directly to the skin.
7. Vitamin C and E are important for skin health.
8. Have skin exams yearly after the age of forty.

One of my teachers is a Kahuna in Hawaii. She passed on this word through her newsletter: Eala, which is Hawaiian for Awake. See if this powerful, high frequency word resonates with you.
