Inflammatory Breast Cancer
This information is courtesy of my colleague Cathie-Ann Lippman, MD. You can find out more about her at www.cathielippmanmd.com.“You don’t have to have a lump to have cancer.” A less common but very important form of cancer is Inflammatory Breast Cancer, otherwise known as IBC. Because it does not follow the usual picture we hear about breast cancer, it is often misdiagnosed. The symptoms may be similar to mastitis, a breast infection. Doctors, not being aware of IBC, may just prescribe antibiotics as though it were an infection.

These are some of the common ways IBC presents:

Itching on the breast
An area that looks like a “bite” from an insect, but does not go away
Ridges and thickened areas of the skin
A “bruise” that does not go away
A nipple that retracts and does not reform
Discharge from the nipple, with or without bloody appearance
Sudden enlargement of the breast within a few days
Pain (of various kinds and severity) in the breast
Change in color and texture of the aureole
Unexplained warmth to touch in the breast

We do not present this to frighten you. When you are informed, you can educate your doctor, if necessary, to investigate all possibilities for a diagnosis. More importantly, inflammation means there are imbalances in your body. You can minimize this with good diet, exercise, sleep, and learning about ways to support your good health amidst our toxic environment.

Additional notes from Miluna: I believe in always speaking with love to your body. When you apply (pure or organic) body lotion to care for the rest of your skin, apply it to your breasts as well. Don't say unkind things about your breasts or wish they were larger or smaller or different. I know personally of two women who said "my breasts are so large, I wish I could get rid of them". Several months later, these women developed breast cancer. Be very aware of the power of your words, emotions, and mental state on your energy and physical health. 11 Tips for a Healthy Brain
1. Protect your Brain
Wear appropriate helmets when on a bicycle or motorcycle. Wear your seat belt while in the car. Wear protection when playing sports.
2. Consume alcohol carefully--not excessively.
3. Medications can decrease blood flow to the brain.
4. More than 3-4 cups of coffee, tea or sodas daily
constricts blood vessels and also decreases brain activity.
5. Sleep deprivation slows down the brain function.
6. Stress has a negative effect on the brain. Brain cells can die with continued stress.
7. Eat breakfast including some healthy protein.
8. Practice positive thinking. Your thoughts do matter.
9. Exercise your brain. Do crossword puzzles, play games, learn a new skill, read books on new subjects.
10. Make love. The intimacy affects hormones and hormones affect the brain.
11. Use music to help you concentrate and focus. Mozart consistently rates the highest for intelligence building.

Herbs for Prostate Problems
Statistics show that 40% of men over the age of 50 and 70% of men over the age of 60 develop prostate problems of one form or another. Enlarged prostate, or BPH, can lead to more serious consequences. To help keep the prostate healthy try these herbs (not to be used in the case of prostate cancer-see your physician): Saw palmetto which reduces DHT the by-product of testosterone and helps cells know when it is their natural time to die. Pygeum (Pygeum africanum) is an evergreen tree that is helpful in reducing DHT levels and has anti-inflammatory properties-used by native African populations for centuries to relieve symptoms of an enlarged prostate. Kudzu root is an herb that also inhibits the production of DHT. Pumpkin seeds are rich in selenium, zinc and essential fatty acids. Zinc is a mineral that many men are deficient in. Studies show zinc helps reduce the size of the prostate and ease symptoms. Selenium is a mineral that works with Vitamin E to improve the body's ability to fight inflammation that can be caused by symptoms of BPH. Lycopene (best in the form of eating organic raw tomatos) also protects from inflammation.

Fun--Bite
A recent wedding between two hypochondriacs was very touching.  They exchanged vows and symptoms.
