Lip Service
What do our lips need the most? Moisture. Dab your lips with filtered water or honey before putting on your lipstick. Drink lots of water to keep your body hydrated from the inside. You can brush your lips with a soft toothbrush to remove dead skin or buy one of the scrubs made especially for the lips. Sunscreen is very important because the lips are very thin skin and don't contain oil glands. Good antioxidants for the lips include CoQ10, Vitamin A, alpha lipoic acid, and Vitamin C. Good organic lip balms are made by Kiss My Face, Desert Essence, Jason Natural Cosmetics, and Burt's Bees.

Drugmakers cut back on TV ads
Drugmakers are trying to spend their money more selectively. Nielsen reports that TV advertising is down by 10% this year. Last year they spent around $44 million. One of the reasons for the pullback is the controversy surrounding some of the drugs. Look for more targeted pitches to consumers via Internet, cable TV and direct mail.

Almonds lower LDL levels
A handful of almonds eaten daily helps lower LDL cholesterol -- the "bad" cholesterol. Almonds contain good things like Vitamin E. This from Paul Davis at the University of California-Davis.

Praying for Health
Medicine has increasingly shown an interest in investigating the effect of prayer and spirituality on health. A survey by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found that 43% of US adults prayed for their own health, while 24% had others pray for their health. Some researchers say that is reason enough to study the power of prayer. Almost every community in the world has a prayer for the sick, says Dr. Krucoff, a cardiologist and researcher of prayer and healing from Duke University. He has a study which is under review for publication. Dr. Krucoff sees many patients near death. He says that what determines their survival often reaches beyond technology and medicine.
