Fighting
Jet Lag
This information comes from a NASA study and American Airlines. Jet leg
is physiological as opposed to psychological and everyone reacts differently.
Eight steps to take when traveling:
1. Get plenty of sleep the night before.
2. If you are sleepy when you arrive-take a short nap and then get out
and take a walk or be active.
3. Drinking alcohol can interrupt sleep patterns and may make you feel
worse.
4. Drink lots of good water to avoid dehydration.
5. Caffeine 30 minutes before a meeting could help with your alertness.
6. Overly salty, spicy foods, and sweets tend to make us feel worse. Eat
lots of protein and green vegetables for energy.
7. Anyone who takes medications like insulin should ask their doctors
if any schedule adjustments should be made when they travel.
8. If you are away for less than 24 hours stay on your home time. If your
trip is longer, switch your orientation to the local time.

Medical
Yoga
Perhaps you have heard of medical or therapeutic yoga. The focus is to
work with patients who are recovering or facing illness in conjunction
with their medical doctor's care. Therapeutic yoga training is mainly
targeted for nurses, physical therapists, doctors, and current yoga instructors.
Some doctor's offices have yoga practitioners on staff. Here are some
possible health benefits from yoga:
Heal Injuries/Joint Pain
Reduce Back And Neck Pain
Increase Breathing Capacity
Reduce Headaches
Balance Hormones
Manage Asthma
Balance Thyroid Function
Improve Pancreas Function

Screening
for Tumors
Scientists in the House Ear Institute's Electrophysiology Department have
found a cost-effective method to screen for small acoustic tumors (a benign
growth on the hearing nerve) less than
1 cm in size. One of the doctors found that the old standard Auditory
Brainstem Response (ABR) test missed tumors not only because they were
so small but because of the position of the tumor and the auditory nerve
fibers that were compromised. The new ABR is more sensitive and specific.
The new ABR is more sensitive and specific and is stacked
which means it uses clicks and special masking noises to stimulate hearing
while external sensors are placed on the patient's scalp to record the
brain's response. "The Stacked ABR test allows us to assess the neural
activity from five octave-wide bands across the auditory nerve",
explains one of the research audiologists. (Note: My surgeons were from
the House Ear Clinic) Find
